Inspired by the feeling of being deep in the woods of the Wissahickon Valley, this bathroom brings the quiet, filtered light of the landscape indoors. Tumbled slate floors and a custom walnut vanity ground the space in natural materials, while the geometric shower pattern is an interpretation of leaves and moss. Reflected green light softens the room throughout the day, creating a sense of calm and immersion. The result is tactile, understated, and quietly restorative.
Crafted from solid walnut, the custom vanity pairs a simple, modern form with traditional box-making techniques. Exposed finger joints are a quiet expression of craftsmanship, while the varied grain of the walnut brings warmth and an organic quality to the precise geometry. The inset cast-bronze pulls add another layer of texture; they will continue to gather patina the more they are used. Designed to feel like a piece of furniture that would be at home in a workshop rather than a bathroom, the beauty of the construction becomes part of the design. The utilitarian form is elevated by a leathered Negresco granite top, balancing rugged materiality with clean-lined simplicity.
